Bespoke Logistics Solutions for Life Sciences Shipments

Most businesses require tailored logistics solutions that cater to their unique needs and preferences, like how people have their regular coffee order. Personalisation and customisation have become key components for businesses to boost revenue. According to McKinsey, over 70% of consumers expect a personalised service and personalisation can contribute to a 40% increase in business revenue. Amidst the growing number of services and products available in the market, consumers are looking for bespoke solutions that can address their needs.

This is also evident in the logistics and transportation sector, especially in temperature-controlled logistics.   However, when shipping biologics and pharmaceuticals products, a pre-requisite of a high-end bio-logistics provider is their capacity for personalisation. In other words, bespoke logistics solutions ensure the viability of various biotech & pharma products and reduce logistics risks.

At Royale International, our experts offer bespoke logistics solutions to enhance our clients’ temperature-controlled supply chain with our Customer-oriented Procedure (COP)

At Royale International, our experts offer bespoke logistics solutions to enhance our clients’ temperature-controlled supply chain with our Customer-oriented Procedure (COP).

What are Customer-oriented Procedure (COP)?

A Customer-oriented Procedure (COP) is a concise document of agreement with Royale International for temperature-controlled shipments.   This document includes detailed procedures on handling biologics and pharma shipments, namely the specific routes for delivery, listed communication methods, and listing the specialised thermal packaging that maintains the integrity of products during transit.

What are key benefits to request for a COP?

Accountability

Logistics encompasses five major elements: storage handling, packing, inventory, delivery and information handling. It is important to confirm the scope of service that will be provided when selecting a logistics provider. In other words, offering high transparency during the planning process to manage expectations and calculate logistics risks.

The COP outlines what service elements Royale International will handle under shipment requirements, and what corrective actions will be taken in different scenarios. Additionally, Royale’s Industry Experts offer bespoke logistics solutions leveraging our data-driven tools to ensure optimal routes for our clients’ shipments.

Building Trust

Producing a COP document requires a sit-down with Royale’s Experts and our logistics clients. We understand that a shipment is more than just a transaction and carries the mission of our clients. Royale commits to go the extra mile, establishing an open and active line of communication.

Our temperature-controlled services leverage our 30+ years of logistics expertise and commitment to excellence.   Our discussion is an opportunity for our partners to engage with us and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of our offerings, as we value their partnership and input.

Customisation

It is necessary to discuss customisation with your logistics partner when shipping biologics and pharmaceutical products. Every business has different needs: Certain research labs may require multiple shipments within a contracted period under various temperature ranges, or a long-haul dry ice shipment between continents may need re-icing service during its transfer.

Ultimately, customisation of service is a key characteristic when selecting a logistics provider for high-value, temperature-sensitive shipments. Royale’s COP offers its clients shipment flexibility as a single source logistics provider for our clients and partners temperature-controlled needs.

What are the sections that make up a Royale COP?

A COP is a lengthy document, but can be broken down into five sections:

/ General Information

This is where Royale and its partners list their points of contacts and address.  This section establishes the dedicated personnel that will handle communication throughout the shipment, as opposed to a lengthy process ‘right contact’ for their account. This also establishes the partiesinvolved throughout the shipment to avoid any risk of confusion moving forward.

/ Purpose

Royale’s Industry Experts understand that this is more than a shipping procedure but supports the advancement of medical and healthcare efforts by our clients.   This section focuses on identifying the product, its destination and our client’s end-goal for this transit.   Some sample end-goals would be:

  • Virus samples shipped within a clinical trials process to manage a new strain
  • Skin grafts (STSGs or FTSGs) shipped to support fire victims
  • Kidneys shipped to support transplants across the country or the globe

Our experts will then tackle temperature requirements, arrange the shipment lifecycle and specify how the shipment would be handled. This is where the concept stage of a bespoke logistics solution.

/ Scope

This the meat of the COP. Royale’s experts will identify the type of logistics services used for the transport, discuss how the shipments will be monitored, and routes planned based on our data-driven assessment tool and shipment requirements. Essentially, partners are provided with an overview of the services requested from Royale International for the shipment, as well as the contingencies and documentation for its transit.

/ Main Process

This is the potatoes of the COP. Royale’s experts will breakdown and list the whole shipment procedure, including but not limited to; order creation, invoice details, approval process, pick-up and delivery. The process are extensive as possible to ensure partners are aware of key information, such as the personnel who will be picking-up the shipment, what flights or routes will be used or the type of approval that is required at the airport, as well as various others.   Specifically, for temperature-controlled logistics, COP specifies the periods when the data logger activates and de-activates to ensure shipment integrity.

/ Communication

Finally, this section outlines when & what Royale’s experts will communicate with its clients.  Important milestones such as, pick-ups, arrival at departure/arrival airports, plane departures etc., ensure high visibility of the shipment.   Royale’s dedicated account managers are there to make it happen.
